Churches Together in Haworth and Cross Roads

F
or a number of years, Ministers and members from the following Churches:
Haworth West Lane Baptists
Haworth West Lane Methodists
St. Michael and All Angels – Haworth (Anglican)
St. James at Cross Roads (Anglican)
Our Lady of Lourdes (Catholic Church) Ebor Lane, Haworth and
Lees Methodist Church (Cross Roads), have met regularly to discuss ways we can work together in worship, and action in the community.
We have shared together in ecumenical services in each of our churches, looking at each other’s denominational differences, and also those things which bind us together.
We have witnessed in the park at Pentecost, have an annual Walk of Witness on Good Friday, and each year arrange study groups in both Advent and Lent. We also have special services during Holy Week, meeting together in each other’s churches.
At Christmas and Easter we prepare leaflets to our community, about 3000 homes, and these are distributed with the Haworth and Cross Roads Village News.

Details of the Churches in Haworth can be found on Haworth Village website and St. James' Church website

Open Doors Project

A
joint project with St James' church, set up to open the doors of both churches to the community as a form of reaching out to people who had not been to church for a long time, or perhaps who never had been. This initiative is an ongoing development of links with our neighbouring church of St. James, and has been in existence for about 5 years.
In the early days a jointly produced leaflet was distributed in the new housing areas of the village, encouraging people to be aware of our close links. Each year our congregations join in worship at each other’s Churches. On the first anniversary banners made by each church for the other were exchanged. (The one given to us by St. James’ Church is pictured on this webpage). The “Street Prayers” for the village is also an important part of the ongoing “Open Doors” Project initiative and covers the whole of the village on a fortnightly rotation of the streets throughout the year.
If you would like us to pray for a specific need or situation known to you, please give brief details on a slip of paper and put it in the box provided at St. James Church or to Elizabeth Caissie (our caretaker at Lees Methodist Church) at the School House.
Please do not mention anyone by name unless you have their permission. Elizabeth (our Caretaker) is a member at Lees Methodist Church and a Local Preacher, and also a Lay Reader at St. James Church. Prayer requests for the “Open Door” street prayer programme may be sent to Elizabeth by email via our Minister, Alf Waite.
The phrase “Open Doors” was first coined (by Maurice Baren) on the programme for our 125th Sunday School anniversary (Twenty Five years ago now) where Maurice wrote “We do not see ourselves as exclusive and our doors are open wide to anyone who is seeking to find and serve the Lord Jesus Christ”.
